Automatically updating third party applications

Using Windows 11 you will have 'winget' available to you.

If you run 'winget update' you will see a list of applications that you have installed that need to be updated.

If you run 'winget upgrade --all --silent --accept-source-agreements --accept-package-agreements' from an Admin command prompt, then it will automatically update the applications without prompting.

Disclaimer:

This command will silently upgrade all installed packages via the Windows Package Manager (winget) without prompting for user interaction. It automatically accepts all source and package agreements, which may include license terms, privacy policies, and other conditions set by the software publishers.

Use with caution.

  • Some upgrades may introduce breaking changes or remove features.
  • Applications in use during the upgrade may behave unpredictably or fail to update properly.
  • System stability or compatibility may be affected depending on the nature of the updates.
  • It is recommended to review critical packages manually before running this command in production or on systems with specialized configurations.

Always ensure you have a backup or restore point before performing bulk upgrades.
